Shelbee's Cafe - Check It Out!

Shelbee's Vintage Cafe – Check It Out!

Last week my sister and I were heading to town and decided to go to lunch. We were tired of the same ol', same ol' so I mentioned a new place I'd heard about to her. We figured it was at least something different than the usual so we'd give it a try. Wow! Were we in for a wonderful surprise!

Shelbee's Vintage Cafe hasn't been opened very long so we wanted to see what it was all about. We were immediately greeted with a welcoming smile, seated and given menus. On the particular day we visited, the lunch special was Turkey Sub, chips and Drink for around $6.79 so my sister and I both decided on that. Although we were served quickly, we had an opportunity to have some wonderful sweet tea – brewed and sweetened perfectly – before our meal arrived.

When our sandwiches were brought out to our table, I noticed the generous servings and the food's presentation was very nice. In addition to our sub were chips as well as a couple of baby pickles. That first bite of the sandwich was delicious!!!! I believe that was about the best turkey club I'd ever had! The flavors blended together so well and you could tell it was freshly made. We were both beyond impressed!

After we had finished our meal, we were asked if we'd like to try one of the many dessert items on the menu. Even though we were full, we thought we'd give it a try because we'd probably regret it later if we didn't. I had the orange creamsicle cake with orange buttercream frosting. (YUM!) Oh my goodness! Absolutely wonderful!!! My sister had a lemon cupcake with lemon buttercream frosting. It was delicious as well – of course we had to share! She even took some of Shelbee's sweet treats home for the rest of the family to try. They loved them, too!

Shelbee's Vintage Cafe also has a warm, inviting atmosphere. They offer free WiFi for you to enjoy while you dine or just hang out and listen to music. The staff are courteous and friendly. Shelbee's Vintage Cafe is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. Until 6:00 p.m. They serve items ranging from Diggity Dogs, Nachos, Chili, to various Sub sandwiches, Grilled sandwiches (melts), salads as well as desserts and pastries. All home made of course!

On Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Shelbee's Corner allows kids to come and decorate their own cupcakes! Sounds fun, doesn't it? The Vintage Cafe also offers catering, kids parties, cakes for special occasions and more! And, if you order by February 9th, you can do something special for your Valentine. You can order a unique sweet treat for your sweetie that can be gift wrapped and will include a sentiment of your choosing. Cookies, cupcakes, specialty cakes, candy and pastries are just the beginning.

If you get the chance to visit Shelbee's Vintage Cafe, please let them know you read about it here. They are located at 730 Bluff City Hwy., Bristol. They can be reached at 423.652.1000. Give them a try and if you do, let me know how impressed YOU are when you become a loyal customer. I'm looking forward to hearing your comments on this great new place! Tell Carol that Kate says “hello” when you go by! I'm sure she'll be glad to serve you.

Hopefully the snow will melt soon and we can all get out and enjoy some decent weather. Personally, I'm ready for Spring NOW! Thanks so much for reading. Have a wonderful week! Til next time,

Kate

Shelbee's Does It Again

Shelbee's Does It Again!

Summer is nearly in full swing now. It's already hot and muggy with occasional rain showers. We are blessed to be in an air-conditioned home. With my multitude of health issues, I wouldn't be able to stand some of these days. But, I can say I surely do not miss the cold and snowy weather! I suppose I should thank the Good Lord for allowing me to live in a beautiful area with breathtaking scenery and surrounded by wonderful people.

Speaking of wonderful people, I am hoping since my article a few months ago about Shelbee's Vintage Cafe, many of you have tried this wonderful place. I have to say again that these ladies never cease to amaze! A couple of weeks ago they had an Oreo cake! Everything from muffins, brownies, their (signature) pound cake, cupcakes, a variety of cake flavors. Too many to list here. Mercy! I've not tried anything that wasn't delicious there. Ask the ladies, Carol and Lisa – they know me very well now.

Anytime family or friends from out-of-town visit us, my sister and I try to take to Shelbee's Vintage Cafe for a great meal. Everyone so far has loved it! You will, too. Their sandwiches, side items, chili, hot diggity dogs, salads, sandwich wraps, and now a full Mayfield ice cream serving station. My personal favorite cake is the Almond Wedding Cake. (Oh my-o-my!) But again, everything I've ever tried there is absolutely amazing! Oh – don't forget to try the fresh-made lemonade! YUM! My brother told the ladies something he said he thought he'd never say – He told them their cake was much better than a well-know catering business in Bristol. I have to agree as well. One reason, Lisa told him, was that their cakes are baked fresh and not frozen the decorated. I believe it.

My family and I saw a different side to Shelbee's last week. We had a graduation party there for Bubby and the ladies catered a full meal for us and our guests. They have a number of meal selections to choose from and in some cases will allow you to substitute one side for another. You can't go wrong with their catering; especially if you have your event at the cafe. Not only will they decorate (with decorations you provide if they don't have them) but they also serve and clean up for you.

I must say, these ladies have Southern Soul Food down to a science. Our particular meal consisted of tender roast beef with gravy, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and some of Shelbee's signature Pound Cake. Heaven in every bite!! My sister-in-law, who's been a vegetarian for a few years now, even ate some roast beef! Now THAT makes a statement, doesn't it? My little mother, whom rarely eats much at all, ate two plates full of food. Absolutely wonderful, ladies!

You can use their catering service for many occasions. Birthdays, various holidays (Father's Day is coming up soon – hint, hint), anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, of course graduation celebrations, engagement celebrations...I could go on. I'm sure you get the picture. You ask for it and these ladies will cater to your events. Since my first article, Shelbee's Vintage Cafe has been featured on Daytime Tri-Cities and they will be featured again on June 9 at 10:00 a.m. This time, they will be featuring some items from their catering menue. If you can't be home at that time, try to DVR it!

If you'd like a great lunch at a reasonable price in a great atmosphere or if you'd just like dessert and coffee, go by Shelbee's Vintage Cafe at 730 Bluff City Hwy. In Bristol, TN. Their phone number is 423-652-1000 if you have questions about a catered event or about any specials going on. Also, go to their website, http://site.shelbeescakesandcatering.com/ to sign their guest book. Look around the website a bit as well...you never know when you'll find a coupon or perhaps a secret phrase for something special. You can also find them on Facebook. Just search for Shelbee's Vintage Cafe and Catering. You'll be glad you did. So, get out there and see what you've been missing! Tell them Kate sent you.

I hope you all have a wonderful week.. I'm going to be missing my daughter this week as she visits with my brother and sister-in-law in Texas for a bit. I suppose my little fur-baby and I will just have to make due on the days “daddy” is on the road. Take care!

Til next time,

Kate
